I'm
sure that Dennis, now looking back at it from wherever
he is now, probably thinks that going heavy on prospects
in the last few seasons was probably not the best long-term
strategy for him :)
I
met Dennis only once, when he visited Weaver's lab in
Victoria. He seemed like a very fun guy. A real fan
of oldtime NHL hockey, especially if related to the
Boston Bruins.
Once
again we are losing an original owner in this league.
It's starting to be a really sad season for the FHL...

I regret not having had the chance to meet Dennis. He
was in Albany briefly in 1995, but we couldn't get together.
Many a trade has been made between EDM and ANA, and
I'll miss bickering with him over the value of his
prospects. :)

I
am flabbergasted and words are hard to measure out well
upon this news.Dennis was in my mind one of the more
interesting and enjoyable GMs to deal with and I personally
greatly enjoyed his sense of humor.
I too never actually met the Duck-man, but as with Jon,
his loss feels as real and hurtful as losing any friend.
I'd like to think that Dennis counted me and others
as friends, because I personally think of you guys that
way. We are a brotherhood that though we don't always
agree - we certainly share a great common love for the
game. Though we compete, I still think of each of you
as I would a team mate if we had a hockey team of of
our own.
Some close buddies are like line-mates, the ones who
always pass you the puck, or cover for your mistakes
in the slot.
Some
guys see spot action on your line, or are defence men,
playing the game their own way but appreciating your
efforts in your own role. Others may be like guys hoping
to move up and bump you from your spot on the power
play or first line, but despite that, they still appreciate
you as a part of the team and want you to do well.
Paul
and Mark (Stats & Commish) are like our Goalies,
we may abandon them at times when they could use our
help, and in practice, we may frustrate them with high
shots...but they are still well appreciated and we know
we can't do without them.
I
guess I'll try to send a small note to the young Chipman
to express my personal condolences. I suggest it might
be nice for the family if we all sent a little note
saying how we enjoyed knowing him and will miss him.
